Course Description

This course prepares Illinois registered nurses to understand the End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act, also known as Deb’s Law, and its implications for nursing practice. Participants will review the purpose of the law, key eligibility criteria, safeguards, ethical considerations, and the nurse’s role in patient education, communication, documentation, and care coordination. The session also distinguishes Deb’s Law from hospice care, palliative sedation, and withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment, with emphasis on scope of practice, conscience protections, and compassionate, patient-centered care.
