Every nurse has a unique story, and each week we’re proud to spotlight an ANA-Illinois member who is making a meaningful impact on the nursing profession and the communities they serve.

Our Member of the Week series celebrates the diverse experiences, leadership, and dedication of nurses across Illinois. This week, we’re excited to introduce Anne Dickemann. Learn more about her nursing journey, what inspires her work, the accomplishments she is most proud of, and the advice she’d like to share with fellow nurses and future healthcare leaders.

What are your credentials?

RN, BSN

How long have you been a member of ANA-Illinois?

1 year

What inspired you to become a nurse?

Critical care nurses I worked with when I was a CNA.

How long have you been a nurse, and what specialties or areas have you worked in?

6 years. Emergency, case management, and pediatrics.

What is one thing you love most about the nursing profession?

The career of nursing can offer many different opportunities.

What does being a member of ANA-Illinois mean to you?

It connects me with current EBP and lets me see how other nurses are experiencing the field.

What is one challenge in healthcare or nursing that you are passionate about improving?

Shame. There’s so much shame in the working world and the nursing education world. It serves no one, and there is a better way to teach.

What advice would you give to nursing students or early-career nurses?

You don’t need to be confident right away. No one expects you to know everything. Continue to have a curious mind and ask many questions.

What accomplishment in your nursing journey are you most proud of?

I knew I would be a really great teacher, and I’ve received some really great feedback from my nursing students on my teaching style and my no shame philosophy.

Outside of nursing, what are some hobbies or things you enjoy doing?

Heavy weightlifting and traveling to new places in the world.

Finish this sentence: “Nursing is…”

Adaptive and something that can be there for you through all phases of life.

Thank you, Anne Dickemann, for your commitment to advancing nursing and improving the health of communities across Illinois. We are proud to recognize you as this week’s ANA-Illinois Member of the Week.
