Casey brings a thoughtful, grounded perspective shaped by years of frontline experience and a deep commitment to strengthening the nursing profession statewide.
Meet Casey Green and Her New Role
“My name is Casey Green, and I am a critical care nurse and nurse anesthesia resident with a professional focus on clinical excellence, education, and healthcare advocacy. I am honored to serve on the ANA-Illinois Board of Directors, where I look forward to contributing to statewide initiatives that support the nursing workforce, advance nursing practice, strengthen policy efforts to protect patients and the profession, and help shape the future of nursing in Illinois.” Casey’s dual experience as both an advanced practice student and a bedside clinician gives her a unique lens into the challenges and opportunities facing nurses today.
What Inspired Her to Serve
Casey’s commitment to serving on the board is grounded in firsthand experience with how policy affects practice. “I chose to serve on the ANA-Illinois Board because I have seen firsthand how policy decisions directly influence the daily realities of nurses and the outcomes of the patients we care for. Throughout my career, I have been committed to advocating for safe practice environments, equitable access to education, and strong professional standards.” Her decision to step into leadership is rooted in a desire to ensure that nurses remain central to the decisions that shape their work and impact patient care. “Serving on the board allows me to contribute to this work, ensuring that nurses have a meaningful voice in decisions that impact our profession, our patients, and our communities.”
Why Professional Involvement Matters
For Casey, professional organizations are essential to the future of nursing. “Professional organizations play a critical role in shaping the trajectory of nursing. When nurses engage with organizations such as ANA-Illinois, they join a collective effort to advance practice, promote legislative advocacy, and elevate the profession’s visibility.” She highlights the importance of connection and development: “Involvement provides opportunities for leadership development, mentorship, networking, and participation in evidence-informed policy work.” But most importantly, professional involvement ensures representation: “It ensures that nurses, those closest to patient care, are represented when decisions are made about healthcare delivery, workforce needs, and professional standards.”
Her Tip for Nurses Who Want to Lead
Casey’s leadership advice reflects both humility and wisdom: “For nurses who want to lead, start by engaging fully where you are. Say yes to opportunities, communicate clearly under pressure, and let your daily actions reflect the kind of leader you intend to become.” She emphasizes that leadership begins long before a title appears next to your name. “Leadership often starts long before a formal title. In my own career, many of the opportunities that shaped my growth began simply by raising my hand, volunteering for projects, offering support to colleagues, helping with things happening in the unit, or stepping out of my comfort zone.”
Looking Ahead
ANA-Illinois is honored to welcome Casey Green to the Board of Directors. Her commitment to advocacy, professional development, and elevating the nursing voice will play an essential role in shaping a stronger future for the profession in Illinois.
Join us in congratulating Casey and welcoming her to the ANA-Illinois Board of Directors.
