ANA-Illinois is proud to introduce Giovanna Zito, MSN, RN, CMSRN, AMHFA, a newly elected member of the ANA-Illinois Nominations Committee. With a career grounded in professional development, nursing excellence, and equity in leadership, Giovanna brings both expertise and heart to this important role. Her commitment to transparency, diversity, and the growth of future nurse leaders will enrich the organization and strengthen the profession across Illinois.

Meet Giovanna Zito and Her New Role

“My name is Giovanna Zito, and I am honored to serve on the ANA-Illinois Nominations Committee. In my professional role, I am a Nursing Professional Development Specialist for Rush Medical Group, where I lead system-wide initiatives focused on competency standardization, professional development, and ambulatory nursing excellence. Joining the Nominations Committee allows me to support a fair, transparent, and inclusive process that identifies and elevates nurse leaders who reflect the diversity and strength of nursing across Illinois.”

In both her daily work and her service to ANA-Illinois, Giovanna champions the growth and development of nurses at every level. Her dedication to creating accessible pathways into leadership is a core part of what makes her an invaluable addition to the committee.

What Inspired Her to Serve

Giovanna’s passion for service is rooted in the mentorship and opportunities she has experienced throughout her career. “I was inspired to serve on the Nominations Committee because I believe leadership in nursing should be accessible, equitable, and representative of our profession’s evolving needs. Throughout my career, I have benefited from strong mentors, professional governance, and the support of organizations like ANA-Illinois. This role gives me the opportunity to help create pathways for emerging leaders and ensure our organizational leadership reflects nurses from all backgrounds, specialties, and career stages.”

Her desire to elevate others and make leadership attainable for every nurse reflects the mission and values of ANA-Illinois.

What She’s Most Excited to Accomplish

Giovanna is deeply focused on strengthening leadership development within the organization. “I am most excited to strengthen the nominations and selection processes so that every nurse, whether they practice in ambulatory care, acute care, community health, academia, or beyond feels encouraged and supported to pursue leadership roles. Building a future focused pipeline of leaders who are prepared, engaged, and aligned with ANA-Illinois’ mission is something I am deeply passionate about.”

Her vision ensures that ANA-Illinois continues to grow leaders who are prepared to guide the profession forward.

How She Plans to Keep Members Engaged and Informed

A key part of Giovanna’s approach is demystifying the leadership journey. “In my role on the Nominations Committee, I plan to champion transparency, approachability, and active outreach. Many nurses don’t pursue leadership positions simply because they don’t know they can or don’t feel ‘ready.’ By increasing communication, offering guidance, and demystifying the nominations process, I hope to help more nurses see themselves as leaders and feel confident stepping into statewide roles.”

By ensuring every nurse feels welcomed, informed, and empowered, Giovanna hopes to build a more connected and engaged membership.

Looking Ahead

ANA-Illinois is grateful to have leaders like Giovanna Zito who combine professional expertise with authentic passion for the nursing community. Her focus on transparency, diversity, and developing the next generation of nurse leaders will enrich ANA-Illinois and inspire nurses across the state.

Join us in congratulating Giovanna and welcoming her to the ANA-Illinois Nominations Committee.
