Dr. Mendoza’s leadership is grounded in compassion and fueled by a deep commitment to ensuring nurses across Illinois are heard locally, statewide, and nationally.

What Inspires Her to Serve

Dr. Mendoza’s motivation to serve is rooted in the passion of nurses throughout Illinois. “What inspires me to serve as ANA-Illinois Representative is the passion of our nurses to make a difference! The love we have for our patients, communities, and our profession is incredible, and I want to make sure I capture as many voices as I can to share in Washington.” Her leadership centers on amplifying those voices and bringing forward the experiences, challenges, and ideas of the nurses she represents.

Leadership in One Word…

When asked to describe what being a nurse leader means in one word, Dr. Mendoza chose “Service”. “In one word, a nurse leader means service! I serve by leading by example and influencing others to become leaders themselves for our profession.” To Dr. Mendoza, leadership is about lifting others up guiding, inspiring, and empowering nurses to step confidently into their own leadership journeys.

What She’s Most Excited to Accomplish This Term

Dr. Mendoza is passionate about bringing mental health into the spotlight. “This term, I am very excited to bring more awareness to mental health and with support hold a mental health symposium.” Her vision reflects a pressing need in both the nursing workforce and the communities’ nurses serve expanding awareness, increasing education, and promoting meaningful conversations around mental well-being.

Why Professional Involvement Matters

Stephanie is a strong advocate for engaging in professional organizations like ANA-Illinois. “It is incredibly important for members to continue their involvement in ANA and other professional organizations to stay updated on latest evidence-based practice, healthcare political issues needing our support, educational and networking opportunities, and my most favorite advocacy!” For her, involvement isn’t just beneficial; it’s essential for growth, connection, and shaping the future of the profession.
