What is the American Nurses Association? 

There are a variety of professional organizations for both student and full-time nurses. So, what makes the American Nurses Association (ANA) different? The ANA is the only comprehensive professional organization that represents the interests of the nation’s 4 million registered nurses. According to the National Health Council, the American Nurses Association, “advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting a safe and ethical work environment, bolstering the health and wellness of nurses, and advocating on health care issues that affect nurses and the public.” Overall, the ANA is the premier organization for nurses. 

What does the American Nurses Association Illinois state affiliate do?

Much like the wider organization, ANA-Illinois represent and supports the nurses of Illinois. ANA-Illinois’ goal is to “build a community of nurses dedicated to advancing their profession and providing safe, affordable healthcare.” The organization works to ensure nurses are considered in legal and regulatory decisions and protects the interests of the profession in Springfield. In addition, the ANA-Illinois attempts to make healthcare in Illinois better by offering its members leadership development and ensuring that all of its members’ valuable skills are used. Mentorship opportunities are available through the ANA mentoring program, and ANA-Illinois offers members both in-person and virtual events and webinars.
