Lisell Zuñiga, BSN, RN, PEL-CSN

Lisell Zuniga is an accomplished leader in school health administration and a passionate advocate for student wellness. With over six years of experience in the school setting, she oversees health services for 21 schools, ensuring the health and well-being of students in diverse educational environments. Lisell actively collaborates with the local health department and VNA Health Care to manage vibrant school-based health centers, promoting accessible healthcare for students. Her leadership and dedication to school health have garnered widespread recognition, including being named “School Nurse Administrator of the Year” and one of the “40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders.” She also co-authored the article “A School Nursing View” with Araceli Orozco, published in June 2023. As an immigrant Afro-Latina from Panama and a bilingual Spanish speaker, Lisell brings a unique perspective to her work, advocating for inclusivity and diversity in healthcare. She is currently the President-Elect of the Illinois Association of School Nurses and serves as an instructor for the School Nurse Emergency Nurse Course, providing critical education and training for school nurses. Outside of her professional work, Lisell is a coffee enthusiast always on the lookout for the best-tasting coffee, enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, and loves to travel, exploring new cultures and embracing diverse global perspectives, especially in healthcare.
