Mary Sheehy DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC
Mary Beth Sheehy is a nurse practitioner with expertise in palliative care and critical care. She practices palliative care at Advocate Christ Medical Center and critical care at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Her work centers on relief of suffering, clinical excellence, and strong communication with patients, families, and care teams.
Mary Beth earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marquette University in 2009. She later completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice at Rush University in 2017. Her education reflects a commitment to evidence-based practice and advanced clinical leadership.
She began her career in critical care and postoperative care. These early roles built a strong foundation in high acuity settings and complex decision-making. In 2022, she transitioned into palliative care, where she integrates symptom management, goals of care discussions, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Mary Beth holds active leadership and service roles across the profession. She serves on the Advocate Health Care Palliative Care Council. She also serves on the Government Relations Committee for the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing. In this role, she supports policy priorities affecting advanced practice nurses and patient access to care.
She contributes to nursing education as a lecturer in the Acute Care and Gerontology program at Rush University. She also mentors new advanced practice nurses and students as a clinical preceptor. Her teaching emphasizes clinical judgment, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
