Nurses Taking Action Across Illinois

On October 3, nurses across Illinois are invited to take visible, coordinated action to help elect nurse candidates and strengthen nurse representation in Springfield.

You do not need to live in a candidate's district to participate. Choose one candidate, two candidates, or all three.

Knock doors. Write postcards. Engage online. Activate your network.

Choose the opportunities that work for you and help demonstrate the Power of Nurses™ in Action.

Ways Nurses Can Take Action on October 3

1

Knock on Doors

Join a candidate's campaign team for door-to-door voter outreach.

The campaign will provide:

  • Training for new volunteers
  • Walk lists and assigned neighborhoods
  • Campaign literature
  • Instructions and materials

Even when a voter is not home, leaving campaign literature builds name recognition and increases candidate visibility.

2

Write Postcards to Voters

Join a postcard-writing event at a campaign office.

Spend an hour or two writing personal postcards to voters. Nurses who prefer an indoor activity play an important role in helping campaigns reach residents directly.

3

Invite Another Nurse to Participate

Bring a nurse colleague, friend, student, retired nurse, or advanced practice nurse with you.

Ask them to choose one action:

  • Knock on doors
  • Write postcards
  • Share contacts
  • Engage on social media
  • Promote the candidates within their networks
4

Follow the Candidates on Social Media

Follow Karen Battaglia, Danielle Penman, and Jenny Levin on their campaign social media accounts.

More followers and engagement increase the reach of campaign messages and help introduce the candidates to voters.

Network and District Outreach

8

Share Your Friends and Family List for Jenny Levin's Campaign

Think about people you know who live in House District 51 and who might want to learn more about Jenny Levin's campaign.

Provide the campaign with names of:

  • Friends
  • Family members
  • Coworkers
  • Neighbors
  • Former colleagues
  • Community contacts

If you only know the person's name and town, the campaign might be able to locate the address through its voter database. The campaign will provide the proposed letter for your approval before sending anything on your behalf.

9

Tell Your Network Why Nurse Representation Matters

Create your own social media post explaining why you support electing nurses to the Illinois General Assembly.

  • Why does having a nurse in Springfield matter to you?
  • What perspective does a nurse bring to healthcare policy?
  • Why do nurses need a stronger voice when healthcare laws are written?
10

Introduce a Candidate to Someone in Their District

You might not live in Senate District 32, Senate District 33, or House District 51, but someone you know might.

Text, email, or call someone in the district and introduce them to the nurse candidate running to represent them.

11

Volunteer Directly With a Campaign

Contact the campaign and ask where help is most needed.

  • Door knocking
  • Postcard writing
  • Call-time activities
  • Campaign office assistance
  • Voter outreach
  • Social media engagement

Financial Support

12

Make a Personal Campaign Contribution

For nurses whose schedules prevent them from volunteering, a personal contribution provides another way to participate.

Choose one candidate or divide your support among all three.
