ANA-Illinois is the professional association for all registered nurses in the state. Nursing and health care are constantly changing and so must the organizations that serve the needs of nurses. In late summer of 2012 following thoughtful consideration, the Illinois Nurses Association (INA) Board of Directors and the INA Commission on Economic & General Welfare (union governance of INA) decided that members could be better served by forming two distinctly different organizations. INA remains a union representing registered nurses in Illinois. ANA-Illinois will focus on statewide policy and nursing regulation.

We are an organization that advocates for the profession – providing a voice for all nurses across all specialties, practice settings and roles. We protect the practice of nursing by ensuring that the profession’s priorities are incorporated into legal and regulatory decisions. We understand what’s important – issues such as oversight of scope of practice, appropriate use of unlicensed personnel and the impact of managed care. We safeguard and promote licensure, credentialing and the right of the profession to define nursing practice.

ANA Illinois, together with our national partner, the American Nurses Association (ANA), will continue to build a community of nurses dedicated to advancing their profession and providing safe, affordable healthcare.

If you have questions or wish to inquire about membership in the ANA-Illinois, please email Susan Swart MS, RN, CAE syswart@ANA-Illinois.org for additional information.
