What are your credentials?
DNP, MSN-EL, BNS, RN
How long have you been a member of ANA-Illinois?
I have been a member for several years and continue to value the professional community and advocacy work ANA‑Illinois provides.
What inspired you to become a nurse?
I became a nurse because I wanted to serve people in a way that combined compassion, skill, and purpose. Nursing gave me the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families, especially during their most vulnerable moments. I was inspired by the idea that one nurse can change the entire trajectory of a patient’s experience.
How long have you been a nurse, and what specialties or areas have you worked in?
I have been a nurse for over a decade. My experience spans long‑term care, skilled nursing, hospital settings, correctional nursing, and agency work across multiple facilities. I currently serve as a Registered Nurse II with the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, where I also support quality, education, and leadership initiatives.
What is one thing you love most about the nursing profession?
I love the ability to impact lives through both clinical excellence and human connection. Nursing allows me to advocate, educate, comfort, and lead all in the same profession. The trust patients place in nurses is something I value deeply.
What does being a member of ANA-Illinois mean to you?
Being a member of ANA‑Illinois means being part of a strong, unified voice for nurses across the state. It represents professional growth, advocacy, and a commitment to elevating nursing practice. It also means standing with colleagues who are passionate about improving healthcare and supporting the next generation of nurses.
What is one challenge in healthcare or nursing that you are passionate about improving?
I am passionate about improving workplace safety both physical and psychological. Nurses deserve environments where they feel supported, respected, and protected. I advocate for safe staffing, trauma‑informed leadership, and systems that prioritize both patient and staff well‑being.
What advice would you give to nursing students or early-career nurses?
Stay curious, stay humble, and never stop learning. Nursing is a lifelong journey, and every experience, good or challenging, shapes your growth. Ask questions, seek mentors, protect your integrity, and remember that your voice matters. You belong in every room you walk into.
What accomplishment in your nursing journey are you most proud of?
I am most proud of earning my Doctor of Nursing Practice in Leadership while continuing to serve my community as a full‑time nurse. I am also proud of the advocacy work I’ve done to support staff, improve quality, and strengthen safe care practices within my organization.
Outside of nursing, what are some hobbies or things you enjoy doing?
I enjoy entrepreneurship, especially growing my vending business. I also love spending time with my family, exploring new ideas, and staying active in my community. Personal growth and continuous learning are important parts of my life.
